History

The “1 PEOPLE 1 CITY” event is a charity carnival that celebrates our cultural diversity of Hong Kong, recognizing that each culture and nationality represents an integral part of the progress and success of Hong Kong. And we are blessed to be part of this community and want to give back something to Hong Kong, through blessing the needy in the city. Through charity to the people, we can send the message that while we are from different nations and cultures, we share a common destiny while we are in Hong Kong and that we care about the its people.

We’ve held two “1 PEOPLE 1 CITY” events previously. The first one was held on 13 March 2011, and the second one on 24-25 November 2012. Each were attended by more than 5000 people. We had the support from the consulates from nine nations. We had all-day entertainment on stage, an International Food Fair, a huge bazaar and game stalls. The first event  raised more than HK$600,000 to bless five grass-root charitable organizations in Hong Kong.

The second event raised HK$1 million for the poor in Tin Shui Wai district, which is also known as the City of Sorrow. There we put in place support programmes, including mobilising volunteers, establishing visitation programmes, providing material support including food, crisis support and intervention, referrals to emergency funds, social counselling as well as programmes to nurture sense of community.
